Academy News (Sept 2019)

The new season is underway and we?re pleased to announce the 3 under 7 boys teams that we helped form have all played two league matches.

This season Kirby Academy @ Star is in full swing on Tuesdays (5 pm ? 6 pm) and we?re confident that Star will help create another 3 teams for our grassroots partner club.

Mini Stars (Under 5s & 6s)

We?re looking for local boys and girls in reception & year 1 in the following areas

  • Mondays ? (Brooksby Centre) Melton, East Gostcote, Queniborough, Syston & Surrounding areas.
  • Tuesdays ? (LFE Centre) Kirby, Ratby, LFE & Surrounding areas.

We can offer a structured pathway into playing for grassroots teams and our experienced coaches give the younger boys and girls a great introduction into football with fun training sessions.

Star Academy Games Program (Talent)

We have started to put the games program for our talented players in the under 8 & under 9 age groups.

In September the under 8s travel to play Walsall Academy and the under 9s play the reverse fixture against Mansfield Town Youth.

Our plan is to enter a Star Team in the Midland Junior Premier League at under 10s next season.

The under 7?s games program is planned and we hope these matches offer different experience to the grassroots football.

If your child is playing high level (1/2) grassroots football at (U7s. U8s, U9s & U10s) and you feel that your footballing superstar would benefit from extra training and be part of the games program, feel free to book a taster session at one of our development centres.

Girls Football Development Program

We have almost 25 girls training with us at our development centres and we?re extremely proud that we managed to create an under 10?s girls' team for our grassroots partner Kirby Muxloe FC.

Our objective is to create teams in every age group over the next 12 months and as an Academy, we have great flexibility in helping girls take their first steps into playing competitive football.

With 100 players training at our LFE Centre we will offer an internal games program against boys, also mixed teams of boys of girls.

We believe this will speed up the development of girls in preparation for playing external matches against other girls? teams.

The Pre Academy (LFE)

We now have over 30 players in our Tuesday Pre-Academy and we have enough players to form a specific under 5s group.

The under 5s will now train separate and go on to a different player development program to the under 6s. If we feel that certain players in the under 5s will benefit from training up then we will move them up to train with the under 6s.

Our plan with the Kirby Academy is to create 3 teams that will form that age group. We currently have 16 players in the Academy and need a minimum of 21 players to form the 3 teams.

The Pre Academy (Brooksby)

We should have some exciting news to announce in October with regards to another grassroots club that wants to partner with Star to exclusively run their Academy and create teams.

The initial talks have progressed well and we have a few points to agree that will create a win-win situation for both the club and the players getting a safe structured pathway into playing football.

Coaches Development

We would to congratulate John Dobson who completed his UEFA B Course over the summer.
To have a UEFA B coach on our books is fantastic and we?re delighted that John is playing an active role in the planning of sessions for the under 9s and above.

Steve Hastings is hoping to be accepted on the UEFA B course in the spring of 2020.

Our Academy just concentrates on the foundation phase of development, in the next few years we will move into offering coaching sessions in the youth development phase.

Our plan is for all coaches that deliver these sessions to be UEFA B qualified ensuring that players get high-quality technical training.

Player Development

After months of planning, we have sorted the structure on how we can grade and measure players (7-11-year-olds) in the core fundamentals of the game.

We feel that be providing parents a player profile through the player assessments will over time give them a measurement of their progress.

It will also provide the coaches with feedback on individual players and they can give help and advice on how to work on certain areas of the game.

We offer a FREE taster session at both of our Centres
